Brothers and sisters I want to wish you all a happy holiday season! I hope this finds you all in good health.
It has been a busy few months on the legislative front and I wanted to keep everyone up to date on what's been going on. First off, we did really well in our local elections last month that involved city council and fire districts. Those that we didn't win, we have started reaching out to those newly elected and inviting them to fire ops 101 the first week of June. We need to plant that seed early in their political careers.
Last month we had the opportunity to meet with Congressmen Simpson and discuss some national issues. He continues to be a strong supporter of our firefighters. I'm excited to report that next week we will be meeting with Governor Otter to discuss the issues that face Idaho's Professional Firefighters. Most importantly to discuss the importance of Collective bargaining, persi, and our cancer bill.
I am asking you all this year to please bring your fire helmets to convention. We will be making a big media push to recognize that Idaho does not have presumptive illness legislation. This campaign is going to require a good showing of our members to convention and our local firefighters to help us at our, "Day at the Hill"
Last, I'm happy to report our State PAC is nearing $45,000. We have had some new members join as well as current members increasing their contributions. I'm happy to announce that we formed three new PACs this year as well. As you all know, political action is so important to our mission.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to call or email me. There are still a few locals that I have not had the opportunity to drop in for station visits or union a meeting. I plan to make a trip around the state after this session to give post session updates as well as preparation for our State races for the legislature.
